RANT TIME. No offence to the above people, but I wish to rant on this subject, if you don’t mind. I must get this message across.

ATTENTION TUMBLR

I understand the growing diversity of dancing and arts of expression. But seriously? This shit? Pardon my language, but that’s how I view this.

Alright, let me break it down for you. Now, I like hip-hop dance and music if the lyrics are good and if it promotes some sort of artful message… but, if dancing is supposed to be an art, as many of you claim, then what does this prove? That you’re free? That you’re “living it up?” That you’re having fun? Maybe you view it as that, and that’s all fine and dandy, but think of what you’re promoting.

By dancing like this, you’re letting people know that you enjoy listening to songs without caring for lyrics, or just agreeing with a pretty messed up message. You’re saying you’re as deep as the thoughts running through your head while you “dance”.

And you’re thoughts are probably blank and based on what your instincts are saying. Your primitive instincts.

Maybe that’s just how you wanna do things, but…. is this something you would want to do to someone you care about? Because guess what. You may think that you’re trying to be special with them, dancing with them and all, but you know what? You’re treating her just like every other dude in the room. You’re treating her like she’s a sex shrine. You’re basically having sex with clothes on and not caring if anyone’s watching because she’s no different than them, she’s just “yours”.

Hell, look at that dude in the center picture! That tie? Yeah, now look to the middle gif, on the right screen. Hey, well what do you know? Same guy, different girl. How is that any way to treat a lady?!

No.

I believe in glorifying my dance partner. I believe in making her look amazing. Do you know why ballroom dancing is so awesome? Do you know why I love the waltz, the swing, the cha-cha, and all the ballroom dances?

It’s because you can express yourself. It’s because the guy has to think of ways to make the girl look good because she’s trusting you. She’s trusting you to know how to lead her.

And look at this style of swanging and “dancing”. We call this dancing? This is mindless motions. This is saying you have no idea how to lead a girl well, and all you want is her body all up on you. What the hell, man?

You’re not leading her, you’re dominating her. Look at the position. The guys are the ones being glorified, and the girl is being used as a freaking item.

I don’t know about you, but I want to treat the people I love with respect, passion, and, most of all, art. I want them to look amazing as I spin them, lead them, and laugh with them.

It’s not about dancing to the beats mindlessly.

It’s about taking the beats and making it a present for them.

It’s about weaving them with your steps and your motions a story. It’s about trying to tell them something without words.

And that is why I don’t go to school dances.

Give me a parking lot or a deserted street or anywhere with just a simple waltz. And I’ll make you smile brighter than you would “dancing” your night away.

Even better.

I’ll make you dance in ways you never thought were possible.

So please, learn some class when it comes to dancing. Don’t be a mindless drone of society, just waving to the beats.

Weave the beats into something amazing. That’s what being a gentleman is. That’s the dancing I believe in.
